The Center For Seussian Studies presents...
The Dr. Seuss Web Page
Disclaimer
Neither The Center for Seussian Studies, or The Dr. Seuss Web Page are
official pages of or related in any way to Dr. Seuss Enterprises. These
pages are the work of a fan for all of you out there who share a love of
Dr. Seuss. Just so's you know.
Introduction
A long time ago (around 1994 or so) I went looking for information about Dr.
Seuss on the net. I was expecting to find a lot; after all, he seemed like
a natural subject for people to create pages about.
I didn't find any.
So, in a fit of despair, disappointment
and desperation, I set about creating one. I gathered together a few
parodies I found on the net, copied in all the entries from the current
Books in Print did a couple of searches in the Internet Movie
Database, and put it all in one place. This inspired people to do two things.
1) Send me email thanking me for having this page, and 2) Inspired them to
create their own Dr. Seuss pages, having seen how empty mine were.
Move to 1997. There are a number of Dr. Seuss sites out there. Some good,
some bad, some official, some not. Mine still seems to be the only one with
parodies on it, but y'know, that's not saying much these days. So, in a fit
of frustration, and after-work energy, I go about re-vamping the pages.
And then 1998 came along, wherein our hero realized how much work keeping
these pages up to date really is. Slowly but surely, the site is changing...
Welcome to The Dr. Seuss Web Page, Mark II.5
Here's a sort-of table of contents.
- List of Dr. Seuss books, videos, etc and the ability to buy them.
- Dr. Seuss parodies.
- A really incomplete biography of Theodor Seuss Geisel.
- Dr. Seuss goes to the movies.
- Other Dr. Seuss links. Although I don't know why you'd want to go anywhere else...
- The original BIP page. Considering how long it took to type in, I'm not letting go of it.
- What's new on these pages, and in the world of Seuss.
- The words to "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch".
- Read Across America. This
event, designed to encourage kids to read, is a good and noble thing. Check it
out, and see how you can help.
Like thousands of other people, I am an official
Amazon.com Associate.
Yes, you can now buy Dr. Seuss books directly from this site.
I'm also a member of the emerchandise.com
associates program, which now allows you to buy Dr. Seuss t-shirts, ties, boxer
shorts and a few other things directly from this site. Please feel free to do
so.
At one point I had really big plans for this site. I still do, it's just that
I've now got a better grip on the work involved in realizing them. On my to
do list for this part of my web pages are:
- Frequently asked questions, with answers. Real answers too, I hope.
- Reviews of Seuss-related books, and commentary. So you know what to get.
- Graphics. Pictures. All that stuff protected by copyright, y'know...
- Dr. Seuss merchandising. The list of what's out there.
- Adding scholarly works. This would be easy if you would
send me what you've written.
- Rewriting the biography so it sounds like it was written by someone beyond
4th grade (and I apologize to the 4th graders out there).
I'm open to suggestions, comments, criticisms, praise, whatever. Just
drop me a line or otherwise
mail me with your words.
If you don't like the colors on any of these pages, well, that's a valid
criticism. Design comments are also welcome. Nor do I claim to be any
kind of authority on Dr. Seuss. I just like what he's written, and recognize
the influence he had on my life, and want to help others to enjoy his work.
I've received comments and responses from the US, England, Scotland
Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Canada, Norway, Spain, Italy, Malaysia,
the Phillipines, India, Belgium, Germany, Guam, Singapore, South Africa,
Western Samoa and Sweden.
Clearly Dr. Seuss is appreciated the world over. As if you didn't know that
already. Keep those cards and letters coming.
I do not attempt to answer all email I receive; only email that invites
response. And, at that, I don't always succeed. I can be really bad at answering email.
Note: AOL users - if you want me to respond to your email, make sure you
configure your account to accept mail from my account. Thank you.
According to the analysis software, these pages have received over
650,000 hits since March 2000. So you're not alone out there.
