Monsters of Swing 2000 - The Pictures

Monsters of Swing is the best swing dance party disguised as a camp you're going to find in the United States (and if it were a month long, maybe the world...). From March 24th 2000 through the 26th, a horde of swing dance enthusiasts descended on the city of Ventura, California from 22 states, Canada (Toronto to be specific) and Europe for a weekend of classes, dancing, dance contests, live music and general merriment.

While all this was going on, I was taking classes all day, and taking pictures all night. These are some of those pictures. Hell, these are many of those pictures. Nearly all of them, in fact.

Now, presuming you know what Monsters of Swing is because you were there, and you're just waiting for me to put the pictures up so that you can look at them, well, here they are.

A quick note on some of the pictures - some of them have been cropped. Some have been modified with the cheap photo editing software I'm using. They're also in only vague chronological order. And, lastly, they're Picture CD jpgs, subject to scanning problems and compression. The actual pictures look much better...

I do plan, at some point, on regrouping these pictures more by theme. Someday.

Note: In the process of taking these pictures, I gave up my chances to dance. This was a completely deliberate choice on my part, and I don't regret it at all. However, for the sake of all the other photographers out there who get all caught up in their art and forget to dance, go ahead...ask them to dance. They'll appreciate it, and you might too.
